Laphroaig An Cuan Mòr

When you say Laphroaig, you say: peat, salt and ashes. This Laphroaig An Cuan Mòr won’t disappoint you on that.

An Cuan Mòr means ‘Big Ocean’, referring to the Atlantic, were their distillery looks over at. After maturing on first fill bourbon barrels, this whisky was left to finish on European oak. Not too long, we suppose, but long enough to give this Laphroaig a tiny bit of extra depth.

Tasting notes

Nose

The nose is dry, with peach, cinnamon and straw.

Palate

The palate kicks off with liquorice, then pepper, red fruits, apricot, coal smoke and oaky tannins.

Finish

The finish is smoky and a tad bitter, with a flavour that highly resembles basil leaves. On top of that, we get dark stone fruits, licorice, fresh oak, ashes and citrus.

It feels a bit young, too young maybe. But still, an interesting dram if you like the distillery. For the price, I’d rather buy me two bottles of Triple Wood or 10yo, what about you?
