Glen Scotia Double Cask Rum Finish

I (Dennis) really enjoy indulging in a glass of rum from time to time. Especially now that we occasionally come across different types and flavours. Even though my love for whisky reigns supreme, I thought it would be fun to explore the best of both worlds.

So, I arranged an evening with an acquaintance who has a soft spot for rum and considers whisky more of a side note. I brought out all of my whisky matured in rum casks, and he brought along bottles of rum. We had an incredibly enjoyable evening filled with flavours. One of those bottles was this Glen Scotia, a gift from @monnikdranken. To me, this is a perfect bridge encompassing everything that both rum and whisky have to offer. A bottle that fits in on any occasion, but truly shines on warm summer nights.

The Glen Scotia Double Cask Rum Finish spent 8 months maturing in Demerara rum casks and has been bottled at 46% ABV. As for our tasting notes:

Tasting notes

Nose

Smokey, baked bananas, a nice whiff of rum and merengue. There’s some warming rye and leather too.

Palate

Crispy and fresh, sweet and fatty, a nice touch of citrus, with a dash of apple juice and sweet peat.

Finish

Sweet and friendly, lots of winegum notes. Fruity with pear, banana, citrus and a pinch of red pepper. A warming hint of cinnamon and a glow of burnt wood.

While some of our tasting notes might come across as daring, this whisky is actually very well-balanced. It’s certainly not a boring everyday whisky, so I highly encourage you to give it a try. Especially if you’re someone who can appreciate rum or perhaps even want to delve into it a bit more!
