Laphroaig 10yo Cask Strength Batch 011

It happens every now and then that we really dig a dram, but it lacks a bit of a punch. The whisky could be even better when it is bottled on a somewhat higher abv, but certainly not every bottle has a cask strength version, which is something we are sad about every single day.

We have already told you how much we love Laphroaig and their distillery and we make sure we’ll always have, let’s say four bottles, available in our collection. Their 10yo Flagship is a pretty decent dram and you could pour us one every minute of the day, but, as stated above, we are always craving for more. Sometimes a higher alcohol percentage can kill and ‘close’ a dram but sometimes it just gives that little extra you need.

This Laphroaig 10yo Cask Strength is the answer to every question in life if you ask us, Here’s why:

Tasting notes

Nose

Very minty on the nose, sponge cake, sweet, fruity and some oriental flavours in the end.

Palate

Rich and sweet, of course the typical Laphroaig character is well represented. Orchard fruits, oak and even some mineral notes which come close to chlorine.

Finish

A long and warming finish with driftwood, charred oak and meat. Sulphurous (in a good way) and salty notes for a strong base. Tropical fruits with pineapple and apricots. A very complex dram with a lot of different layers. Licorice, stewed pears and even some mineral and herbal notes to top it off.

You see, this cask strength expression has a lot more to offer compared to the regular 10 years old. We agree this one might be a little bit too much to drink on a daily basis but this certainly is a more than welcome addition to every whisky collection. Thanks to @stefangroenen we can pour this one every now and then, if he hasn’t downed it already..

There are several bottles we would like to see a cask strength version of, but we’re very curious to know what you would like to see! Please let us know in the comments down below!
