Glen Garioch 6yo 2011-2018 by Càrn Mòr (Morrison & MacKay)

There’s something about young expressions of whisky bottled by independent bottlers. I always feel that there’s a lot of honesty involved. You’ll get a real taste of a particular moment at the distillery instead of tasting a whisky which tries to be the same in every batch. A snapshot, so to speak.

Glen Garioch is one of the distilleries that stole our hearts, pair that with a young sherry puncheon expression with a de-premiumized label and you got me.

Tasting notes

Nose

Christmas cake, caramelized apple, pear, “dandelion juice”, almond, copper, earthy, peppermint, fudge citrus, peach, strawberry juice and rose-hip. Very intriguing indeed!

Palate

Warm and spicy oak, Turkish delight, orchard fruits and almond paste.

Finish

Earthy and sweet, with papaya, almond paste, Christmas cake, red fruits, apple and cinnamon.

For such an affordable whisky, this is incredible. A higher ABV would make it even better, but nothing to complain as is.
