This awkwardly shaped liter bottle of Bruichladdich is perfect for hot summer days. “But it’s autumn” I hear you say. Well, the weather in the Netherlands is pretty much confused at the moment, the thermometer hit 26 degrees Celsius last weekend. So bring in the Laddie!

This travel retail bottle has matured on bourbon casks and bears no age statement. It is however bottled at a convenient 50%. The first time I tasted this, was in the Ardview Inn bar on Islay. Back at home I immediately ordered one, because it was stuck in my head.

Like the name suggests, it’s organic and the barley comes from Scottish soil. From Mid Coul Farm, Mains of Tullibardine Farm and Coulmore farm to be exact.

It’s most likely a very young dram, and it definitely tasted young and fresh. That’s probably why a little heat brings out more flavours. Let’s have a taste:

It’s very spirit driven, but also pretty complex if you give it a little patience. In the winter you might miss a lot of flavours and find it harsh, so be sure to heat this (and yourself) up a bit. It’s worth it, especially since it’s very affordable.
