We’re not so familiar with Speyburn, but it certainly made quite the entrance to our cabinet with this Single Cask botting.
Maturation took place on a first fill oloroso sherry butt and was bottled at 52.5% ABV.
At first, it reminded us of a combination of older batches of A’bunadh and GlenDronach Revival, not bad! Let’s dig into our tasting notes:
Old and dry sherry, very Revival-ish cherry and apples, vanilla, butter cake and rosehip jam.
Soft, mouth coating and full with dried fruits, rose hip, spices and wood.
Darker than the palate, drying and spicy, raisins, apples, cherries, an array of spices: cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. A little bit dusty even.
Beautiful oloroso notes in here, it’s recommended if you like this style and it’s definitely not inferior to the more well-known distilleries that rely heavily on sherried drams. A job well done!
