Can it get more autumnal than this? Last weekend we purchased the Edradour 10yo Straight From The Cask.
It’s not hard to guess the cask type from the picture, the sherry butt (#59) clearly left its mark! The whisky is bottled at 55% ABV on the 17th of June 2019. Our notes:
Spicy syrup, wood shavings, grandpa’s old flat cap, shaving foam, hazelnut, orange zest, new carpet and cloves.
Very dry, musty and woody, with blackberries to give it something fruity.
Dark and dry, lots of warming spices, blackberries and cherries.
It’s not for the faint of heart, and water doesn’t help to make it less dry. But it’s a great in showcasing that not every cask is the same. The nose is elegant, complex and undoubtedly Edradour, the rest is just incredibly dry and needs the right moment and time to shine. If it had a little more fruit on the palate and finish, it would be just like a Kavalan Solist Sherry Cask, which is interesting.
