When in doubt… visit Islay!
Figuring out which region to visit on your next or maybe even first trip to Scotland? We’d recommend everyone to visit Islay at least once in your life. The fastest way is to travel by air. But unless you’re in a hurry, please consider doing it by bus and ferry, because it’s really worth the trip.
From the incredible views when traveling through the Highlands, to the bumpy waves on our way to the final destination, we liked everything we saw.
Talking about hurry, it doesn’t even exist on this beautiful island. Just like with maturing whisky, the Ileachs have nu rush at all. And that simple fact shone through in everything we experienced on our trip.
In our busy lives, we often forget to stand still.
Living in the moment is more rare than ever. But visiting Islay is the best therapy we could ever imagine. From the beautiful people who told us that there’s always tomorrow, to the distilleries which made us realize how patience, among many other things, contribute to the taste of whisky.
With every dram we drank on Islay we witnessed these facts, while enjoying some beautiful views.
And the funny fact is, that it taught us to relive those moments when drinking our drams at home.
Take this picture at Bruichladdich for example. Is doesn’t need much words to describe how we felt at that moment, sipping our drams and tasting the fresh, malty and flowery Laddie house style with gentle waves caressing the sunny beach.
It may all sound a bit sentimental, but (Trump voice) it’s totally true.
And we’re not the Whisky Consultants if we weren’t including our notes, so here ya go, and remember: enjoy the moment, your whisky deserves it!
Classic malty notes, fresh and crisp, fruity and lots of citrus fruits
Sweet barley, very strong and full, sweet biscuits playing the main part here
Sweet maltesers, tropical fruits from the bourbon cask, cookies and cracked pepper
