Jazz music is not exactly our cup of tea, we tell you that, but this Lagavulin Jazz Festival 2017 release is just what we need. We picked this bottle up at the distillery with the characteristic red chimney back in 2018, when we visited all of the Islay distilleries.
We think each distillery has its own highlights. Some malt floors exude the craft of making whisky, some still rooms are just as magical as Hogwarts, for the Harry Potter lovers among us.
We think the highlight of the tour of the Lagavulin Distillery was definitely the tasting room. This cosy living room/boathouse little setting with its old furniture brings you back in time. With paintings and pictures of ancient times, you’ll be surrounded by an atmosphere of bygone days.
The staff at the distillery were just lovely. Just arrived and welcomed by a wee dram? Sure! Want to taste this exclusive bottle? Say no more! Another refill? Anything goes at the Lagavulin Distillery. We tasted this Lagavulin Jazz Festival 2017 Release, here’s how that turned out:
Creamy, tropical and a salty touch of peat. Banana, yoghurt sweets and pineapple.
Soft, creamy and malty. Barbecued pineapple and charred salty meat, sweet tropical fruits, a nice hint mango.
Elegant and long, with smoked ham, tropical fruits, cream, pineapple and a sweet aftertaste of struck matches.
If the taxi never arrived to pick us up for heading to another distillery that day, we’re 100% sure we would still be in that tasting room. Sharing a dram with other enthusiasts, discussing which bottle you like best.
Sure, we will be back one day, but until then, we cherish that day.
